We Found Snow!

It took an hour drive north to a ski resort, but we found snow for Sam to play in.  We went snow tubing at the Summit at Snoqualmie ski resort.  Sam liked tubing down the hill, but didn't want to be patient with getting towed back up the hill.  Of course it poured rain on us a few times while we were tubing, but not enough to stop our fun.  Very different from sledding back home, but it was better than nothing.  Our friend, Jeremy, and his son, Troy, were able to come with us to and enjoy the fun.

Up Close With The Wild

We recently went for a visit to Northwest Trek, close to Mt. Rainier.  There we were able to get really close to some animals that are native to this area in Washington.  Sam loved watching the animals, he also like riding on the bus that took us through the park.  This is a highly recommended attraction in Washington.  The day we went we were 3 of maybe 30 guests in the whole park...talk about a personal experience.

Rainy Day Fun in Washington

The endless days of rain in Washington call for some creativity.  Like creating a grocery store inside your house, teaching your 2 year old how to pick out groceries, pay for them, and get them home safely in your car.  Sam thought it was pretty cool, plus he likes to make the "beep" sound when he scans his merchandise before checking out.  He had a little trouble fitting all his groceries in his compact car.

Christmas Together

We put our tree up the day after Thanksgiving as usual so that we could spend the most days possible celebrating the Christmas season and preparing to celebrate Jesus' birth.  Sam played with his plush manger set many times and loved to hear about the manger story.  He also liked to peek out our front window and look at the lighted Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus....he always wanted to "wipe off Jesus" when he got wet...but in Washington it's difficult to keep anything dry that is outside.  Sam and I made lots of cookies during the week leading up to Christmas and of course taste tested lots of them.  All Sam kept telling us he wanted from Santa was a garbage truck, so we wrote a special letter and made a visit to Santa so Sam could let him know.  Of course we spent a lot of time together as the three of us, but we very much missed being with our family back home in Iowa.  As a family we focused on the many blessings we have been given this year and reminded one another that Christmas is about Jesus' birth and that we open gifts to help us celebrate that special birthday.  Sam kept saying "Thank you Santa and Jesus" and added in a "Good job, Santa" when he opened his long awaited garbage truck.  Our 2 year old made Christmas so fun!  We wish you all a very Happy 2011 and keep checking back for updates on our lives.  Blessings from our family to yours.

Happy 2nd Birthday Sam!

Sam turned the big 2 on Christmas.  He knows he has a special birthday because every time we would ask him whose birthday it was he would tell us "Sam's and Jesus' birthday".  He is all boy and loves anything with wheels.  He got a Thomas the train set for his birthday and lots of trains to go with it from his cousins Gunner and Tanner.  We celebrated with a birthday morning breakfast, cake later, and then a birthday part with a few of his friends the next weekend.  Sam was so excited to have his friends over so he could show them all his cool new toys.  Nana and Papa sent him the book "Run away Rolle"...which he has been asking for since we checked it out at the library in Iowa over the summer.

The Little Man

In our family photo shoot, we also got some great shots of Sam.  The photos captured Sam's great personality and his handsome blue eyes!  The hands in the pocket pose was all him, he is quite the little man.

Our Family Photos

It's taken me long enough to post, but I've started now.  In November, our friend Lacy, took these wonderful photos of us...see more of her great work at www.lacyjohnsonphotography.blogspot.com.  We actually were able to do it on a sunny day in Washington and captured the spirit of autumn....and at a fun spot for us country lovers.
